Moving out

Lost rent means lost income from rent in a period where the landlord normally could expect to receive rent. The landlord may have a right to claim compensation from the tenant, if the loss is due to the tenant.

Typical examples

  • The tenant does not move out at the agreed upon time. The new tenant, who was supposed to move in, find a new residence before the tenant moves out. It takes time before the landlord finds a new tenant, and she therefore loses rent income for a period.
  • The tenant has caused significant damages to the residence, and the landlord must repair these. The landlord is delayed in the process with finding new tenants, and loses rent income for a period.
